Don’t let it fool you. April can be cold in Wisconsin. Oh sure, we have some warm days in the 50’s and maybe even the 60’s; but lots of wind and wind chill off the lake; and just plain cold. I love it. Ha ha. That’s the “Homesteading Lifestyle” — Loving where you live is easy when it is in the bosom of the Mother Earth.
The ice on the lakes melted quickly, really. And my grandson caught a nice sized fish a few days ago! Wow!
My granddaughter asked me a riddle the other day while we were out walking in the countryside. She picked up a prickly burr and asked me with a sweet smile: “What’s the coldest plant on the planet?”
I’m lousy at solving riddles. I was stumped and told her so. She held up the burr and with a smile proclaimed: “It’s a burrrrrrrrr!” She pretended to shiver! I loved it. And I laughed heartily!
Family life is a Gift, a place where Love can be cultivated, nurtured and preserved for the sake of all humanity. Love is a precious phenomenon and humanity will likely not survive without it!
My Next Book IS about Love…
I have a very close friend who grew up abused. My heart goes out to him over and over again. We need more LOVE in this world! All kinds of Love! Romantic, Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Familial, Friendship, etc. etc. etc. My next book title has the word “love” in it!
I was one of the very lucky ones. When I was growing up, my father loved music. So did my mother, for that matter. But it was my father who set up the stereo speakers in the living room and the turntable in his “study” along with his record collection. Movie themes were some of his many favorites.
Check out Connie Francis singing the theme song from a film by the same name, Love is a Many Splendored Thing. It’s a beauty! The song debuted in the film by the same name in 1955 and won the Best Original Song Academy Award in 1956. I was three years old! And I know that song “by heart” even today.
While writing this little piece I realized that even though I know the song, I had never seen the movie! So of course, I watched it and was quite moved. Romance surely fits into the Homestead Lifestyle!
“Check out the song’s lyrics:
Love Is a many splendored thing!
It’s the April rose that only grows In the early spring!
Love is nature’s way of giving, A reason to be living
The golden crown That makes a man a king!
Once on a high and windy hill
In the morning mist, Two lovers kissed, And the world stood still
Then your fingers touched My silent heart
And taught it how to sing —Yes, true love’s A many splendored thing!
Once on a high and windy hill
In the morning mist, Two lovers kissed, And the world stood still
Then your fingers touched My silent heart, And taught it how to sing!
Yes, true love’s A many splendored thing!
